About the Show
Language Archives, according to google, is about exploring the limitations of language, specifically how words fail to express love and emotion. George is a linguist who is trying to preserve and document dying languages while his marriage with Mary is falling apart because he doesn’t know the right words to say. Through the older couple he is documenting, he realizes just how important those words could be for others.
Photographing the Show
Getting to photograph the show was so much fun. I used my 70-200 lens so that way I didn’t need to jump up on stage with the actors, and my Sony A7ii. For this show, they booked my two day package, so they would get 100 photos per evening that I shot. I like doing the two nights because the second night I have a good idea of how the show moves and can get myself into good positions for certain scenes.
For this show, lighting was very important. There was a lot of browns for books and wooden bookcases and flooring, so the light gave the show a pop of color to show different stages of moving on.
I think the most challenging thing for this show was finding new ways to photograph the same things. Some of the characters do repeated things throughout the show, so I wanted to make sure even though they were doing the same thing, I was utilizing my corners I could work in, optimizing the whole stage, and making sure the set did not overwhelm the actors in pictures.
I hope that everyone that came to see the show enjoyed it, and if you missed it, no worries, there will be plenty more shows to come. So enjoy the photos until then and I will see you next time!
