Knights in Shining Armor
Okay so my friend JD is awesome. A couple years ago, he messaged me saying he was moving to Lubbock and if I had any recommendations as far as theater work. He wasn’t sure about it at first, but I convinced him to join a local theater and he was hooked. He started taking combat classes, participating as an actor in shows, and he grew a great support system from the people there. I was so happy for him.
Well then he called me up saying that he had just gotten this new suit of armor for Ren faires and he wanted to get it photographed. To say the least I was so excited. This is the kind of work that makes me so happy so I quickly said yes.
The Shoot
We decided that this needed to be an outdoor shoot rather than in a studio so that way it gave a whole ambience of feeling like we were in the actual world. So we chose to go to the Arboretum in Lubbock. Texas. I had just shot there for a Halloween shoot as a new discovered location and it was just perfect. Everything was still green, there was plenty of light to work with. So we decided that was the place.
I made sure to scout the location first to make sure there was plenty of options to work with, and make sure that I could secure a spot, but we were lucky there were very few people there.
We started at the big tree because of how the light was shining through the branches. I wanted to play with that so I asked him to kick up as much dirt as he could so there were shafts of light all around him. It made it feel ethereal and more like we were looking at a knight in a fairytale book.
We played in several locations that were actually really great for the idea of a fantasy book. There were fallen white rocks, a little vine arch, and so much golden light.
I really think that is what made this shoot such a success because taking photos at the right time completely changes everything. I really enjoyed this shoot and if you have any questions feel free to message me. I hope you enjoy these photos and I will see you next time.
